What do you want to do?
Hold the ID number in the box
Photograph the item (up to 6)
Capture different angles, both sides, any markings, the gate/stitching. Photos are used for AI identification and stay as the visual-inspection record.
Make a printer file
Patches a real printer master — only the letters and the counter start change. Layout, fonts and spacing stay exactly as built on the printer.
Getting it onto the printer
Files app → Downloads → long-press the .zip → Uncompress (new-format files are folders; Safari can only download zips)
Printer: cartridge in, power on, Settings → USB
Connect the phone by cable. Lightning needs a Lightning-to-USB3 Camera Adapter with power passthrough — cheap USB2 adapters fail on power draw
Copy into USER → user → record — navigate into user, then into record, and paste there. Not the top level: the root is treated as removable USB content and the counter resets to the start value every power-off. Only user/record is permanent storage.
Delete any "._" file that appears beside it after pasting. iOS writes these automatically and they must not be left on the printer
Disconnect, power-cycle the printer, then File → [layout] → Open

Print ID labels
Press Connect (above), then tap Settings > USB on the printer itself
Enter your prefix & start number below and tap Load labels
Press Release (above) — this drops the printer out of USB mode
Long-press the printer button, wait for the beep, then wait ~90s for its screen. Print your batch
Come back here, enter the last ID you printed, and register them (bulk or one at a time)
The printer's screen and USB mode are firmware — the app can't press those for you.
Troubleshooting
Register without printing

Label printer bridge
Runs on your Raspberry Pi (zkbridge). The Pi keeps the ID sequence; GearTrace reads the next ID from it. A quick-tunnel URL changes whenever the tunnel or Pi restarts — paste the new one here. The token is sent with every request as X-Bridge-Token. These settings are stored for your whole company — set them once here and every phone that signs in picks them up automatically.
How it works
Scanning marked items, the register and logs use the shared company database. AI identification runs on the server with the owner's key — no key needed on your phone. Location is captured from this phone's GPS (allow when asked) and stored as the item's last known location.
